Holidays to Damaraland

Travelling to Namibia? Be sure to add Damaraland onto your list of ‘need to go’ places. Untamed and rugged, desert-adapted wildlife roam the open plains, rugged red cliffs stretch towards the sky and thousand-year-old carvings are etched into the mountainsides. Our collection of lodges and camps are intimate – many accommodate only a small number of guests at any one time – and provide a unique southern African experience – think lodges built into the rocky surrounds and camps with soothing hot pools. Speak to Best at Travel about including Damaraland into your holiday to Namibia, either on a fly drive or with one of our tailor-made tours.

Travel Tips & Advice for Damaraland

Damaraland Activities

Damaraland is one of Africa’s most underrated wildlife watching destinations. This is a place home to the critically endangered black rhino (for a one-of-a-kind experience you can track these shy creatures) as well as deserted-adapted species including lion and elephant. We recommend exploring on foot with a local guide – remember to bring your hiking shoes and binoculars! And when night comes across, look up – Damaraland has some of the best star gazing.

Damaraland Food & Drink

During your stay in Damaraland you’ll be in the middle of Namibia’s wilderness away from restaurants and bars. Instead, you’ll be treated to delicious cooked meals at your camp or lodge – most places will include some of your meals as part of the overall package and you can look forward to al fresco dining with incredible views. Spend your evenings drinking sundowners round warming fire pits – the ultimate African experience.

Damaraland Attractions

There’s more to Damaraland than intriguing wildlife and awe-inspiring landscapes. Twyfelfontein – given UNESCO World Heritage status – is an outdoor art gallery with thousands of ancient rock engravings and paintings while the rock art ‘White Lady on the Brandberg’ is the main attraction on Namibia’s highest point. Other unmissable sites include the million-year-old petrified forest and the ‘Organ Pipes’ made up of hundreds of angular rock formations.
