Top of ‘must do’ activities in Dubrovnik is a leisurely stroll around the mile-long city walls dating back to the 13th century – come early to avoid the heat and the crowds. For a birds-eye-view of the city ride the cable car to Mount Srđ or take to the water on a sea kayaking trip. Want to sunbathe? Catch a ferry to the Lokrum islet, covered in pine and eucalyptus and with slabs of rocks perfect for soaking up the sunshine - plus a replica of the Iron Throne!
Surrounded by the impossibly blue-green waters of the Adriatic Sea, the menus of restaurants in Dubrovnik are filled with top-notch seafood dishes from octopus salad and fresh oysters to frigane lignje (fried squid). If you’re after a quick lunch-time filler, stop by one of the hole-in-the-wall sandwich shops with delicious cheese and prsut fillings. And to drink? Watch the sunset from one of the buža bars, perched on cliffs just outside the city walls.
There are – perhaps surprisingly – a number of museums in Dubrovnik and if you plan on hitting any number of them, we recommend purchasing a multi-museum pass. This will give you entrance to The Rector’s Palace, one of the loveliest buildings in the city, and the Maritime Museum among many others. We suggest you step inside and back in time in the 14th century Franciscan Monastery Museum with its pretty cloister and courtyard.
