Holidays to the East Coast offer sparkling beaches for lounging, as well as snorkelling and diving. The view beneath the waves is spectacular, and visitors often see sea turtles, tuna, marlin or parrotfish in this bio-diverse area. Hotels on the east side of Malaysia offer infinity pools, beachfront dining, snorkelling or diving trips, and hiking as options for visitors. Beachcombing or shopping in local markets can be arranged at any of the hotels on the East Coast of the island.
Delicious scents and spices are a hallmark of Malaysian cuisine. Rice and noodles often serve as a mainstay, along with bean sprouts, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, bok choi and other vegetables. Try nasi lemak - rice steamed with coconut milk, served with dried anchovies, sambal, peanuts and eggs. There are many varieties of fish available year-round. Shrimp, crab, clams, octopus and squid are just a few of the delicacies that are served at restaurants on the east side of the island.
Hotels and resorts offer bars that are open into the night. Karaoke lounges dot the eastern shore as well, and beachfront parties can be found. Some of the smaller bars offer wider varieties of music; check at the larger hotels for a list of what's available around the area. On-the-beach drinks and food are available at many of the hotels, and should be experienced at least once on a trip. Drinks on the beach with the sand between your toes is a Malaysian experience not to be missed.
