Drive the brightly coloured streets of Camaguey and explore the sights of Santiago before heading back to Havana for your flight back to the UK.UK to Havana
There is nowhere quite like Havana, with the classic cars, historic old quarters, legendary bars with amazing cocktails and the world famous arts scene including eclectic music and incredible ballet performances. Many experiences can be arranged in advance to get the most of your time here before embarking on a self drive tour of other places on the island.
Havana to Cienfuegos
Collect your hire car in the morning. The drive to Cienfuegos take approx. 5 hours.
Cienfuegos is around 250 km from Havana and is on the island's south coast, there is a French influence here and wonderful architecture, this is known as the Pearl of the South and quite rightly so.
Cienfuegos to Trinidad
The drive to Trinidad takes approx. 2 hours so you have ample time to enjoy Cienfuegos all morning then set off after lunch. The drive is mainly along the coast so look forward to sea view most of the way.
Trinidad is a truly special town, steeped in history and boasts a brilliant music scene - this is a great place to embrace the island's fabulous musical heritage and try a few dance steps
Trinidad to Santa Clara
The drive to Santa Clara takes approx. 2 hours so a leisurely start is allowed today.
Santa Clara to Camaguey
The drive to Camaguey takes approx. 3 1/2 hours so a leisurely start is allowed today.
Camaguey may not be well known, but is a real gem and the well-preserved historic centre is packed with many inviting pastel coloured streets, plazas and baroque churches. It is the island's third largest city and a great place to observe local life and partake in the regional food & drink.
Camaguey to Santiago
The drive to Santiago takes approx. 7 hours so we recommend departing Camaguey shortly after breakfast.
The drive will take you firstly through farmland areas up to the intriguing town of Bayamo, then you will continue around the foothills of the Sierra Maestre.
Once reaching Santiago drop the hire car off. Santiago is located right at the eastern end of Cuba and is the island's second largest city. Rich in culture it is the place from where Castro launched his revolution and the island's musical capital.
Santiago to Havana
The flight between Santiago and Havana takes 2 hours and usually depart twice a day (one early morning departure, the second a late evening departure, so you have the choice of spending most of the day in Santiago or having more time back in Havana.)
Havana to UK
Enjoy the last day in Cuba, back in the capital city, exploring more of the squares and streets, admiring the classic restored cars or visiting one or two of the great museums.
Flights to the UK depart early evening.
