Havana, Cuba Holidays

Located along the north-western shore of Cuba, the capital of Havana has more than 2 million people and is one of the world's foremost tourist destinations. Famous for its iconic cigars and white-sand beaches, the city also holds important architectural and cultural locations. There is a dynamic music scene, and Cuban music can be heard around every corner. The inhabitants of the city are overwhelmingly friendly and happy. Havana is seemingly frozen in time - you can see numerous classic cars and charming old buildings - yet there are modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Luxury Havana holidays are easy to plan, with excellent hotels and resorts lined along the gorgeous beaches. A wide variety of health and beauty treatments are available in the top-class spa resorts - perfect if you want to relax and unwind from the stresses of day-to-day life.

More Travel Information

Beach activities top the list on holidays to Havana: go snorkelling in the warm waters, or scuba diving in some of the most pristine marine areas in the world. The dive area Jardines de la Reina (Queen's Gardens) attracts hundreds of divers per year. On land, the Plaza de la Catedral and its square are always bustling with activity. A day in Old Havana, on the western edge of Havana Port, is a must. The colonial buildings and the beautiful vintage cars charm everyone who visits.
Havana overflows with food and drink, from fried foods to the delightfully light and refreshing limonata fresca, or fresh lime drink. Several restaurants have rum-inspired dishes on their menu; all are delicious. Barbeque is almost a religion in Havana, and several restaurants specialise in it. Porto Habana has authentic Cuban and Caribbean food in a relaxed atmosphere. For a truly upscale experience, try San Cristobal Paladar with its extensive menu and outstanding service.
Start with an "old car" tour: guides are outside every hotel with their classic cars. It's a great way to learn the city. Knowing a little Spanish helps, but the locals love to practice their English, so walk around as much as possible and interact - everyone is so friendly! People-watch while at San Francisco de Asís Square, then enjoy a sunset from El Morro, the ancient fort. Most tour buses will stop at Christopher Columbus Cemetery, and it's worth a visit for the amazing monuments.
