Travel Tips & Advice for Kauai

Kauai Activities

The geological age of Kauai means it has a huge range of beaches with powdery white sand; you will find the island's best snorkelling spot at Lydgate Beach Park, a great spot for swimming and surfing at Ha'ena Beach Park and the best seats for seeing the sun set at Polihale Beach Park. Kuilau Ridge Trail offers views into the valley and of Mount Wai'ale'ale, the dramatic Wailua Falls are a Kauai must-see, while the Kilohana Plantation is home to Kauai's only rum distillery.

Kauai Food & Drink

Because Hawaii is a unique blend of many different cultures, inspired by sailors and settlers over the centuries, there is always something both interesting and delicious to taste. Be sure to try the "plate lunch", which is a staple on many menus in Kauai. This filling meal is comprised of macaroni salad, rice and meat or fish, such as chicken katsu, mahi-mahi or kalua pork. Wash it down with a glass of kava and finish it off with a sweet hot malasada, a Portuguese doughnut.

Kauai Attractions

There is no shortage of beautiful sights and variety of landscapes on the Hawaiian Islands, ranging from lowland rainforests and coastal zones to alpine forests and more. The islands also have black, white and the rare green sand beaches along with some active volcanoes. Make sure you don't miss a visit to Waimea Canyon during your stay. At a depth of almost 3,000 feet, it's considered the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." The Kilauea Lighthouse is a special sight, offering great views.
