For those looking for something sweet, tuck into a banana pancake. These are made fresh by street vendors and can be topped with Nutella, condensed milk or other fruits. To wash it all down, ask for a Phuket Island Beer - this is a pale lager with a refreshing, fruity tang. Phuket is perhaps best known as a beach destination with 40 kilometres of powder-soft sand to take your pick of and resorts leading directly onto the shoreline. Patong Beach is one of the most popular, with bars and restaurants situated close by while Kamala Beach is ideal for those looking for a quieter spot with impeccably clean sand and the opportunity to indulge in an authentic Thai massage from the locals. The Sunday Walking Street Market is a must-visit too during your stay. It opens at 4pm and is the ideal spot for picking up souvenirs and sampling tasty street food. The Big Buddha is another of Phuket's popular tourist spots, where you can marvel at the 45-metre high statue and enjoy sweeping views of the island below.
