Holidays to Oahu

Holidays to Oahu

When it comes to Hawaii, Oahu holidays really have it all. Known as the heart of the islands and the best place to start if you're new to the state, Oahu offers everything Hawaii has to offer in one perfect package. Honolulu may be a vibrant beachside metropolis, with high rises, resorts, nightlife and shopping, but if it's wild rainforest you want from your holiday, and even wilder waves, then head to the North Shore which feels a world away from the beachfront of Honolulu and yet is it’s just over an hour's drive away. Diamond Head casts the perfect backdrop to Waikiki as you sip on pina coladas and admire the picture perfect view, while adventure lovers will want to head straight to the Windward Coast. If you're after something a little more sedate, but no less invigorating, head to Hanauma Bay which has some of the best snorkelling in the world and is perfect for beginners.

Travel Tips & Advice for Oahu

Oahu Activities

While some visitors will be happy to simply sit on the beach with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other, if you're more of an adrenaline junkie then holidays to Oahu can more than deliver. The Northshore is the birthplace of surfing so head to Haleiwa, Oahu's surf city and grab a board. If surfing's not your thing, then there's snorkelling in Hanauma Bay, hiking Diamond Head, or any number of water sports including wind surfing, kayaking or kite surfing in Kailua.

Oahu Nightlife

If you want to dance the night away, then luxury Oahu holidays are the answer. Honolulu and Waikiki are the places to party in Hawaii, with plenty of bars, packed clubs, and everything in between. If it's kitschy cool you're looking for, head to La Mariana Sailing Club where things haven't changed since the 1950s, or try live music and a dizzyingly long list of rums at RumFire. The real trend setters will want to be at M nightclub with its flickering candlelight and table service.

Oahu Attractions

When it comes to things to do in Oahu, you won't be at a loss, even if you're not an adrenaline junkie. Start with a trip to Pearl Harbour and the USS Arizona memorial, before heading into Honolulu to visit the excellent Honolulu Museum of Art, Bishop Museum, or Iolani Palace, built in 1882 and the first state capitol when Hawaii joined the US. Elsewhere, take a stroll through Chinatown's markets or visit the Valley of the Temples where there's a replica of the Japanese temple Byodo-In.
