Cayman Islands Holidays Tips & Inspiration

Cayman Islands Activities

The Cayman Islands is renowned for its diving sites with an exciting underwater world to explore with just a snorkel or a diving suit. Elkhorn Forest is a particularly popular diving site where you’ll find incredible reefs to explore while Devil’s Grotto offers shoals of glittering minnows and tarpons to swim amongst. On the west coast of the island not far from George Town, you can dive to see the mysterious statue of the mermaid Amphitrite who resides 50 feet under the waves. Prefer dry land? Stop by Starfish Point on the north of the island which is known for its abundance of incredible five-pointed residents. There are also many cave systems to discover with guided tours available on foot or by boat that take you through these incredible natural structures, filled with shimmering stalactites from the ceiling and incredible rock formations.

Cayman Islands Food & Drink

When it comes to food and drink, you certainly won’t run short of tasty dishes to sample during your Cayman Islands holiday. Seafood fished from the island’s shores can be found in plentiful supply. Order conch stew, a rich and hearty dish served up with rice and freshly steamed vegetables. Or if you’re a lover of lobster, you can’t beat the array of dishes featuring this expertly cooked crustacean including risottos and pasta dishes, as well as lobster tails served with spicy hot sauce. If you love dessert, look for Johnny Cakes and order these deep-fried dumplings with butter and jam to satisfy that sweet tooth. Wash all this down with a regional beer such as Caybrew, rum punch or freshly squeezed fruit juices.

Cayman Islands Attractions

On your Cayman Island holiday, you’ll fly into the largest and most popular island, Grand Cayman, which exudes a Miami-style vibe with luxury resorts, the powder-soft Seven Mile Beach – which is actually only 5.5 miles – and Stingray City in the North Sound, where you can swim or wade alongside these gentle marine creatures. With a slightly slower pace of life, Cayman Brac is the go-to island for hiking up rocky landscapes towards the iconic lighthouse - keep an eye out for the endangered Brac Parrot – as well as a jumping off point for deep sea fishing. The third – and smallest island – is Little Cayman, which is home diverse wildlife both on land and sea, as well as some of the clearest waters in the Caribbean which makes it perfect for snorkelling and diving amid the stunning coral reef and marine life including sharks, turtles and eagle rays.
